November’s Themes- Peace, Nursery Rhymes and Exploring numbers to 10.

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for joining us for pumpkin carving. The children had so much fun and the jack-o-lanterns looked great. I appreciated all of your enthusiasm and the help that I got with clean up.

Yesterday, the children brought home paper plate jack-o-lanterns with the life cycle of a pumpkin attached. Their homework was to tell you the story of how the pumpkin grows. We had read the big book “Pumpkin, Pumpkin” many times to help the children with this. In case your child needs some prompting, their story should sound something like…

I planted a pumpkin seed.
The pumpkin seed grew into a pumpkin sprout.
The pumpkin’s sprout grew into a pumpkin plant.
The pumpkin plant grew into a flower.
The flower grew into a green pumpkin.
The pumpkin grew and grew and grew until it became an orange pumpkin.
I picked the pumpkin, scraped out the pulp and carved a face to make a jack-o-lantern.

Next week, we will spend some time comparing pumpkins to apples.

Please dress your child in black and orange on Monday. We will join Ms. Norris’ class in the afternoon for a Hallowe’en story and craft. I hope all of the children have a safe and happy time trick or treating. Please do not send Hallowe’en treats in your student’s lunch or snack.

Friday, November 4th, is photo retake day. If your child needs a retake, please send them to school with their package of prints.

Also on Friday, November 4th, the children will enjoy a pizza lunch.

On Thursday, November 10th, our school will have a Rememberance Day assembly at approximately 10:15. Parents are welcome to attend.

Friday, November 11th, is Rememberance Day.

Monday, November 14th, is a Non-Instructional Day for the children.

On Friday, November 18th, we will be going to Dansko for a morning of dance. The information for this trip was attached to your child’s consent form. If you haven’t already, please return this form to me as soon as possible.

November 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, are early closure dates. The children will be dismissed at 1:40. This will give me some time to meet with families. Please e-mail me back if we have not already had a conference to let me know which day will work best for you and I will try and accomodate as many families as possible. Thank you.

On Friday, November 25th, the children will have a Subway lunch.

Please continue to join us on Thursdays for our Morning March and on Fridays for Read Around the Room.

I am attempting to learn something new. I am hoping to set up a Moodle page for our class to keep you informed about events in our class. I would like to sign all of you up as guests using the e-mail addresses that I already have. Please let me know if I am not welcome to do so. When the Moodle page is running successfully it will replace our class blog and offer a few more options to communicate with you.

Thank you for taking the time to read our November news.

Sincerely,
Mrs. F.

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that it is the end of September. The month flew by so quickly as we got to know each other and the children became familiar with the routines and expectations of Kindergarten. I am so pleased with the positive start all of the children have experienced in the first month. What a great group of students!

October is going to be a very busy month. Here are a few details.

Starting on Monday, October 3rd, when the bell rings in the morning, the children may come to the classroom on their own. They are ready! Please say your good-byes outside to help develop your child’s independence.

During the first week of October, the children are to bring in a picture of their family. It would be wonderful if we could keep the pictures to put up on dislay for a couple of weeks. While showing their picture, I would like the children to tell one thing that their family likes to do together at Thanksgiving. Please help your child prepare for this. If you would like, write this idea on a piece of paper so I can prompt your child if needed. Thank you for your help. Below is the schedule for when the children should bring in their family pictures.

Monday, October 3rd – Adam, Ava, Carter, Colton
Tuesday, October 4th – Emma, Jordan, Justin, Katie
Wednesday, October 5th – Kobe, Kylie, Luca, Noah
Thursday, October 6th – Olivia, Ria, Talia, Ty

On Monday, October 3rd, the children will have their vision and screening checked. Notices about this went home ealier.

On Tuesday, October 4th, we will be making applesauce. We will make it in the afternoon and eat it on Wednesday morning for snack. Your child will not need another snack for Wednesday morning, but please send a spoon and a bowl marked with your child’s name for enjoying their applesauce. If you have apples on your tree that you are able to donate to our cooking project, please let me know. I also will need two parents to help. We will start at 1:15. Please let me know if you are able to come in. Thank you.

Thursday, October 6th, will be our first Morning March with our grade five buddies. Please join us at 8:45 a.m. and hope for a nice clear day. We will not walk if it is raining. On rainy days our buddies will come to our room to read to the children.

On Friday, October 7th, the children will go to the gym to see the Story Theatre presentation of Aladdin.

Monday, October 10th, is Thanksgiving.
I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend.

During the week of October 11th, to 14th, I would like the children to bring in a “Sign of Fall” (colourful leaf, sunflower, soccer socks, picture of hibernating animal). They will have the opportunity to tell the class about their item. Please help them be ready. I will be putting the “Signs of Fall” that the children bring in, on our looking table after they have had their turn to share. Below is the schedule.

Tuesday, October 11th – Ty, Talia, Ria, Olivia
Wednesday, October 12th – Noah, Luca, Kylie, Kobe
Thursday, October 13th – Katie, Jordan, Justin, Emma
Friday, October 14th – Colton, Carter, Ava, Adam

Friday, October 14th, will be our first “Read Around the Room.” When you are available, please come to our room first thing on Friday morning to read to a small group of children. You may bring a book from home or pick a book from our classroom shelf to read to the children. Preschoolers are welcome as long as they can sit with you and enjoy the story.

Also on Friday, October 14th, the children will enjoy their first Subway lunch.

Friday, October 21st, is a Non-Instructional Day for the children.

On Wednesday, October 26th, we will be going to the kitchen to bake spider buns. I need two parent volunteers for this project. Please let me know if you can help. We will start right after lunch at 12:05. Yummy!

On Thursday, October 27th, please send a pumpkin and large spoon to school with your child. Please label both with your child’s name. Please also send any carving tools that your child can use to carve their pumpkin. On this day, we will do activities such as sorting, weighing and measuring the pumpkins. We will also compare pumpkins to apples.

On Friday, October 28th, the children will carve their pumpkins. I would like for each child to be able to bring a parent (grandparent, babysitter, etc) to join us. We will start the carving at 9:00 a.m. right after “Read Around the Room.” Please e-mail me and let me know if your child can bring an adult. Thank you.

On Monday, October 31st, the two Kindergarten classes will get together in the afternoon for some spooky fun!

I am still waiting to hear back from the CRD for the date on our squirrel field trip. I will send you this information as soon as I have it. I hope many of you have been able to get your Criminal Record checks in order to drive on this trip.

If you would like to come in and chat about your child’s first month in Kindergarten, please e-mail me so we can set up a time to meet.

Sincerely,
Mrs. F.

Dear Parents,

I hope you will find our Kindergarten blog a convenient way to receive information about our classroom.   For those of you who are new to blogs; a blog is a website that is easily updateable, where the author can publish instantly to the internet.  Using a blog will keep all the class newsletters in one place and reduce paper.  As I have done today, I will notify you of updates to the blog by e-mail.

I have chosen Edublogs for our blog because it provides a “gated blog”, designed specifically to be used in schools.  To provide security on the internet, I will not identify our location and will not post pictures of the students.  Please let me know if you do not want your child’s first name to appear on the blog.

Sincerely

Mrs. F.
